LAST MINUTE VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT IDEA! 💗 Homemade and sweet = the best kind. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
The first year my husband and I were dating, I lived in #Seattle and he lived in CA. So I dug deep into my romantic arsenal and MAILED him homemade "buttercups" for Valentine's Day. ☺️ ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
So simple! (Unless you're my husband reading this, in which case I slaved away all afternoon out of undying love!)😜 They come out looking a tad homemade, if you know what I mean, but love is blind right!? And the taste more than makes up for it. ⠀ ⠀
Just melt quality chocolate (I used 1/2 bag of @enjoylifefoods brand semi-sweet chocolate mini chips) and swizzle it around the bottom of six mini muffin cups. I have the cutest silicone ones that make clean up a breeze. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Mix 1/3 cup almond butter with a splash of vanilla...and add raw honey to taste. Drop little 1/2 teaspoon balls of the nut butter mixture into the cups on top of the chocolate base. Then spoon more melted chocolate to completely cover the nut butter. Sprinkle with sea salt.😋Freeze or refrigerate til solid.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Next time I make these I'm going to try filling them with @jemorganics cinnamon red maca sprouted almond spread. Because...YUM.
How beautiful is @lovvelavva’s take on my frozen yogurt bark?! 😍⠀
⠀
While I definitely believe certain kinds of dairy have a proper place in our lives, I’m not afraid to go #plantbased, especially when the ingredients are top-notch👌🏽⠀
⠀
In the last four years, growth of ethical-environmentally friendly yogurt products increased 400%. The majority of those claim to be low-allergen, #glutenfree, #dairyfree and mainly #vegan. But very few can claim to be #sugarfree. (Another reason I love @lovvelavva!)⠀
⠀
@CulturesforHealth says nearly any non-dairy milk can be cultured, including legume, nut, seed and grain milks, and we see new products launching with bases such as oats, flax, peas and cashews.⠀
⠀
When looking for a plant-based yogurt, here are some tips:⠀
🍒Strive for no added sugars. This is hard to find in most of the popular plant-based brands!⠀
🍑Check the protein content. Not all plant-based yogurts are created equal!⠀
🥭Make sure #probiotics are a main focus! 50 billion may sound like a lot, but that’s a great number to aim for. ⠀
🍓Say “no thanks” to added gums, stabilizers and artificial flavors or dyes, sadly included in a lot of yogurts marketed to children. 😔⠀
⠀
Are you a yogurt fan? What kind!? 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

'The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.' —Ann Wigmore⠀
I’ve always believed this. Every bite or sip we take throughout the day is an opportunity to help or harm—I don’t know about you, but I’d love for EVERY bit of it to count FOR me and not against me. ⠀
⠀
I drink kombucha because it’s a fermented tea, a time-tested recovery beverage, and a powerful dose of that natural “medicine” we all need more of in our diets. If you haven’t hopped aboard the kombucha train yet (or even if you have!), you need to try @drinkKÖE because it brings all the powerful positive perks of this ancient elixir, but magically tastes of sweet fruit and tangy bubbles—similar to soda, but withOUT high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, or any artificial ingredients. ⠀
⠀
PROBIOTICS provide your gut with healthy bacteria. These bacteria can improve many aspects of health, including digestion, inflammation and even weight loss.⠀
⠀
ANTIOXIDANTS protect against cell damage. Studies consistently find that drinking kombucha regularly reduces liver toxicity caused by toxic chemicals, in some cases by at least 70% thanks to the high antioxidant content. ⠀
⠀
IMMUNE-BOOSTING properties like acetic acid are present in kombucha. These kill off potentially harmful microorganisms and protect against infection-causing bacteria as well as Candida yeast overgrowth. ⠀
⠀
DISEASE-PREVENTION is being studied surrounding kombucha consumption and it’s looking like regular kombucha tea consumption helps protect against heart disease. It also helps to manage Type 2 diabetes. #resolution #sodaswap #kombucha #newyearnewyou #drinkköe #wellnessjourney
Having digestive issues like gas, bloating, stomach pain, acid reflux, constitution or diarrhea? I regularly recommend digestive enzymes to clients, and I take them daily myself. Here’s a little background on why:

Humans produce multiple different enzymes during the different stages of the digestive process. There are three main kinds of enzymes that help break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats, respectively. As soon as we start chewing, salivary amylase begins turning carbs into sugars. In the stomach, pepsin initiates protein digestion, turning it into amino acids, and then gets more help from other protein enzymes such as trypsin, pancreatic amylase and peptidase. To facilitate fat absorption, lipases secreted in the mouth and stomach tackle fats and oils.
Each enzyme has a very specific job description with no crossover—each enzyme will only incite a reaction with its designated food type.

Why take a supplement?
If our system is compromised, because of certain conditions like IBS, food intolerances or aging, some foods can become particularly challenging. Many reach for antacids, but our inability to digest certain foods often has less to do with excess acid and more to do with enzyme function. Although antacids may provide a temporary respite, in the long term they tend to do more harm than help, ultimately inhibiting nutrient absorption, among other drawbacks.

Do you ever have GI issues? Have you tried digestive enzymes before main meals? They work! 🙌🏼 #lowfodmap #lowfodmapdiet #ibsawareness #ibsfriendly #digestivehealth #digestiveenzymes #guthealth
I just read another mama’s post sharing how crippling anxiety is a part of her reality sometimes. And just reading her words brought a soft comfort to my heart (and a few tears too). Misery loves company, huh? ⠀
⠀
So know that you are not alone. ⠀
⠀
The touchy thing about anxiety is that it’s finicky and rarely manifests identically from person to person, leaving each of us to feel even more alone in our suffering. And the causes are vast and varied. ⠀
⠀
Two hard phrases I often hear from well-meaning people (see corresponding responses below):⠀
1. What is it you’re so worried about?⠀
2. But just think about how great your life is!⠀
⠀
1. For me, anxiety is a total body experience and rooted in something deeper and more physical than just casual worry about leaving my baby with a babysitter or having too much to do in a day. Clinical anxiety can be triggered by hormones, micronutrient imbalances, menstruation, digestive problems, and sleep quality. I was actually never much of a “worrier” growing up and still have a hard time when people assume I’m just overthinking minor things.⠀
⠀
2. I sobbed when someone recently told me this point blank. Most of us know how good we have it. But anxiety doesn’t just prey on the down and out who‘ve hit rock bottom. It’s nondiscriminatory and very impartial. Rich, poor, any social status or religion. It can grab you on Christmas morning with beautiful babies laughing, or on a dreamy vacation that anyone would be thrilled to be on, or in the middle of the night when you’re cozy in a warm bed with loved ones sleeping peacefully nearby. ⠀
⠀
My point is that in their very deepest moment of anxiety, the number one thing people remember feeling is utterly ALONE in it. ⠀
⠀
✨✨But you’re not.✨✨⠀ #honestmotherhood#postpartum#postpartumanxiety#postpartumanxietyawareness#mentalhealthawareness#anxiety
I’m always looking for ways to get more diversity and nutrients into my one-year-old’s diet, and often get asked about nuts. While I believe in early introduction to avoid allergies later on, some nuts can be a little too “chokey” for some toddlers in their full/hard form. Nut butters are fantastic but can be too sticky for some small mouths (and you’ve gotta read those ingredient labels!).⠀
⠀
I’ve loved using this classic vegan “Parmesan” recipe as a nutrient-dense add-on for toddler(or adult!) foods. ⠀
It combines:⠀
3/4 cup cashews (I use raw ones & soak and dry them first)⠀
3 T nutritional yeast⠀
dash of garlic powder (optional)⠀
...in a food processor until it’s a “sprinkling” consistency.⠀
⠀
This is a great way to flavorfully get new foods in front of your toddler (or yourself! 🤪). Nutritional yeast or “nooch” contains a wealth of B vitamins, as well as protein and fiber. ⠀
⠀
Nutritional yeast is sold in the bulk section of most healthy food stores, and can also be found from several brands in most spice aisles. #toddlerfoods#toddlerapproved#toddlermealideas#realparenting#healthykids
Stealing a rare and quiet #mamamoment!⠀
And nothing pairs better with a little afternoon break than a fizzy, tangy, fruity kombucha like @drinkKOE. You guys, I used to be BIG into the guilty pleasures. As a kid, it was sneaking my dad's Diet Pepsi. In college, it turned into Red Bull. More recently, I have a really hard time saying no to bags of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Eeeeek! Rather than cutting out these guilty pleasures altogether, I'm leading a⠀
#simpleswap for the month of January and replacing a guilty pleasure with an innocent one. ;) Enter @drinkKOE kombucha.⠀
⠀
But what exactly is kombucha? It's a fermented tea drink that is naturally rich in gut-friendly probiotics, as well as high in antioxidants and other micronutrients your body craves like B vitamins, enzymes and⠀
organic acids. It's made by mixing tea and sugar with a SCOBY (a Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast). The resulting bubbly drink offers plenty of health benefits, including improved digestion and⠀
immune function. It's been around for 2,000 years and isn't going anywhere anytime soon!⠀
⠀
The makers of @drinkKOE have used their genius powers to develop their kombucha into not only a great-tasting, probiotic-packed effervescent treat...but they've made it SHELF STABLE as well, which means you can stock your pantry without using up precious fridge space! And if your little one sneaks a sip, you don't have to fret because unlike most sodas, @drinkKOE doesn't contain any high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors or sweeteners. ⠀
⠀
I love how easy of a choice kombucha has been for me during this #simpleswap season. Our incredible contest is still going on throughout the entire month of January — HAVE YOU ENTERED YET?! Simply post a photo (on stories or your feed) of a #simpleswap you're choosing to make in life, tag @drinkKOE and @madelinenutrition, and use the hashtag #simpleswap for a chance to win an in-person PANTRY MAKEOVER from me (!!!), PLUS $250 worth of healthy groceries, and a three-month supply of KÖE and Perfect Hydration electrolyte water. The winner will be announced January 31st, so get to swappin'! #newyearnewyou #resolution #wellnesswednesdays #sodaswap #wellnessj
