Drink Your Minerals

Madeline Nutrition — Drink Your Minerals

I drank these at about 10:30am the other morning.
Second breakfast!

It's been in the 90s all week and my instructor at CorePower Yoga Santa Barbara yesterday made a big push toward replenishing not just our water intake, but our mineral intake as well. We lose so much more than just H2O when we sweat! Think: sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium and magnesium.

Have you tried the natural sports drink recipe I make? I love drinking my minerals when I can so I don't end up completely flushing out my system with all the filtered water we're told to drink. Filters like Brita and Pür remove many of the harmful impurities in our water, but they also take out much of the good. Be aware and adjust your liquid intake accordingly. The ever-popular coconut water is full of natural potassium, while greens like spinach, kale and romaine have magnesium in their leaves.

1 — The clear jar has filtered water, 10 trace mineral drops, 1 T of lemon juice, and a few pinches of Celtic sea salt.
2 — The darkest jar has watermelon, cucumber, green apple, lime, butter lettuce and tangerine.
3 — The orange jar has grapefruit, orange, coconut water and lemon.

How are you staying cool and hydrated today?
